The second-hand marketplace Users Express Anger About Sizing Changes
Shoppers are voicing their frustration due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Response
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a different size category versus the original listing due to the recalibration.
The platform stated the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Size Classification Changes
Before the change, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter and a range for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they will likely be quite upset," she said.
Necessary Adjustments
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she stated.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: last year, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
